July Mid month challenge: Mask and Spray

Our second challenge for July is to work with a mask or template and some mists, ink, paint or spray. I have a couple of ideas for you...

For this page base I picked up some cheap plastic cutting mats from the Reject Shop and trimmed one down to 12x12. Then I cut it into the sun ray pattern and laid out every second piece on my white cardstock. I've used the peach and the yellow Kaisermists and over sprayed to get the sunlight/ombre effect.

For my second page I used a Crafter's Workshop 6x6 Template and the same Kaisermist colours with the addition of some Candy (pink). I lay my template down and sprayed over it as well as a touch of colour in the corner leaving a bit of white space in-between. I've also opened a complimentary colour- turquoise mist and flicked the bottom of the pump tube to get the splatters. I've brought them from the top corner down on the diagonal to add some flow to my page- and made my title match with thickers from the store.

If you don't have any masks yet there are a huge variety in the store here. Or you can use chipboard shapes or cut your own from cardboard.

Our first challenge for July is a Tic Tac Toe Challenge

For this challenge you must pick 1 line, any direction, and use those on  your layout...

I hope you have fun with these challenges!

HI there, and welcome to our June challenges.

Challenge 1 - Sketch Challenge
by Gypsy

This months sketch is super flexible with options for as many as six smaller portrait style photos on the page. You can flip it around if you have landscape photos to scrapbook. I'd encourage you to use some Project Life style cards and word art on this page- especially for your title. Here's my page...

I decided to go with three photos which I trimmed down to 8x11cm- ideally I would have liked them a bit smaller so I could have more space and more bits and pieces of patterned paper. This page is great for using up scraps! I've used the newest Cocoa Vanilla Range in the store- You Rock!

Hello, the technique I would like to see you use is Stitching.  It can be by hand or machine, little or lots, it's up to you.

Hello and welcome to our April Challenges...

We have decided to mix things up a bit and post both challenges together on the 1st of each month, then during with month we will give you reminders and tips on how we created our pages.

Judging is still done the same, all entries get there name in a hat, and a name is drawn by random.
International entries are welcome, however due to international postage cost a Creative Design Spot will be offered should the winner be from outside Australia along with a little surprise in the post.

Challenge 1: Frames

Hey, it's Gypsy here with our first challenge for April.
Lately I have been working with the newest Cocoa Vanilla line in the store Wild at Heart. This line includes a great pack with 18 different frames in 3 different sizes. I had a great time seeing what I was able to do with them across a few different pages. I love the way they emphasise the photos and can provide a perfect home for embellishments and details.

So the first challenge for April is to use at least one frame on your page as a feature of your design. Share your results in the gallery by April 30 so we can all be inspired and you can have a chance to win one of our prizes this month.

Challenge 2:  1-2 4-5 Challenge

Hello Donna here and I have a requirement challenge for you;
You must use:
  • 1 - peice of cardstock
  • 2 - bits of string, ribbon or jute
  • 4 - pattern papers
  • 5 - bits of bling OR 5 flowers
You can add more.... but you must have these item listed!

For this challenge I've used Jilliebean Soup - Chit Chat Chowder paper, such a fun range to play with... My words wood veneer shapes are from Cocoa Vanilla Love Always range, and my newest favourite KaiserMist spray Coffee and flowers are from the Green Tara Fantasy Blooms range

I hope you have fun with this challenge and I look forward to seeing your take on it up in our gallery.

Challenge Rules
  • Create a NEW project layout, set of 3 cards or canvas for this challenge

Mystical Team

Hello everyone and welcome to our first challenge!

Do you make a New Year Resolution?  or like me do you pick a word or quote to incorporate into your daily routine?

This year I chose the quote "Don't try...Just do"   (sounds a bit like something Master Yoda would come up with ...... and yes boys out number me in this house! 😁)

This gave me the idea for our 1st challenge....Use a quote as a title

Any quote will do!  Here's my take...

I just adore this range from Cocoa Vanilla - Endless summer  I've tried to keep this layout fairly simple so the photo can be the highlight... KaiserMist in Aqua to reflect the gorgeous blue in the photo...got to love that shimmer!!

I've embellished with Cocoa Vanilla Endless Summer, Accessory sheet and Blooms  and Kaisercarft Rhinestones

You need to upload your layout into the Mystical Scrapbooks Gallery - here , or via linkup. Challenge closes at the end of January for your chance to win the prize, and this month prize is a Chipboard and paint pack.

Have fun and I look forward to see what you come up with.

November Challenge #1

Our first challenge for November is a Halloween inspired mood board ... Your layout doesn't need to be a Halloween layout, and let us all know what inspired you!

I've used the very cool Life in Colour from Simple Stories

2nd Monthly Challenge ~ Scraplift yourself!

I made the page above recently using the October Afternoon Silent Night Range- (in store soon). The Diagonal line across the page is not a design I would normally use. But I did like the way this page turned out so I wanted to have a play with the design on another page.

As you can see I have turned the design 90 degrees and changed up the location of the title I think I like this one better than the first. I enjoyed scrapbooking this way because it came together fast as most of the design choices were already made for me.

So my challenge to you is to take a page you've done before and scraplift (copy) some or all of the elements of your design.

Supplies used: Bazzill Basics Cardstock, Simple Stories Heart: Forever in my heartElements 2,Cardstock Stickers, Washi Tape, Kaiser Mist: Yellow, Alphas: Thickers, and Cosmo Cricket Tiny Type.

August Challenge #1

Hello scrappy friends,  welcome back for a new challenge...

For our 1st August challenge, we have a sketch challenge for you.

and here is my take... I've continued with my Christmas photos.

With Heart- 2nd July Challenge

Hello everyone, Gypsy here with the second challenge of the month which is all about hearts. Hearts are such a versatile motif on a scrapbook page or card. And can be used in most situations. This month I am challenging you to do something a little different than the usual with hearts.

Maybe you could go big- and take up most of a page with a heart. Or use a heart in your title like the iconic I♥NY. Form a heart shaped frame with buttons or ribbon around your main photo or form a string art heart with brads and twine as a feature on your page. Whatever your heart desires with hearts.

I decided to go with little and lots on my page...

I've punched multiple hearts and added them in lines that lead the eye down to my photos. I've them stitched them down to give them directionality. This is a great page for using up your scraps- the largest piece of patterned paper on my page is about 3x15cm.

Here's a few photos of my process....

The little Xyron 150 sticker maker is perfect for this task. I fed my punched hearts in and they were ready to stick down no fussing with glue! Tweezers were also an essential tool for dealing with these little things.

I started in the middle of my page trying to be as random as possible. And worked my way out to the sides. I just 'eye-balled' the distance between the lines- I didn't want it to be perfect as I think it would have added a bit of formality to the page- which I wanted to keep fun and playful.

Once all my hearts were in place I stitched each line down with my sewing machine before adding the rest of the page elements.

Supplies used: Bazzill Basics Cardstock, Basic Grey Lemonade: Saltwater TaffySun DressFrosted BerryLime CoolerPretty Petals. Flowers: Kaiser Resin Blossoms, Green Tara 6cm4cm2cm, and4.5cm Primula, Stickers: Cocoa Vanilla Free Spirit  Bling: Kaisercraft Rhinestones Antique RosePaint: Kaisercraft White and red, Lace: Maya Rd Vintage Trim Baby Pompom, Washi Tape: Hambly Set 4

Go scrapbook your heart out!

Guest Design Team Member for July

Please welcome our guest designer this month, Karen Brierley.

Karen has a great first challenge for July and a wonderful tutorial and video for you, so grab a cuppa and enjoy.

Thank you Donna, for inviting me to design for Mystical Scrapbooks this month.  These are the products I was given to create with:

And the reverse side of the papers:

I decided to scrap some photographs from a December day trip, and for something different, I used a 4x4 pocket album.

Step 1>  Cut the papers into 4x4 squares.  Keep the product info strips!
(Two sheets of 12x12 paper = 18 squares)

Step 2> Trim the chipboard and paint with acrylic paint.
(Several coats may be required for lighter colours)

Step 3>  Trim photographs, sort, and match up with papers...  I find this part of the process is fun!
With pocket pages, I start placing things into pockets as I go along, but still move things around a bit until I'm happy with the arrangement.

Step 4> Embellish!  I love to use machine stitching on my pages.  It's a way of adding interest without adding bulk, which is a bonus with pocket pages.

My challenge to you for July is to feature a mode of transportation in your project.  "Planes, trains, automobiles" or what about boats or skateboards or hot air balloons?  The twist is to include some CHIPBOARD.

2nd Challenge for June - Frame It!

Hi :)  It's Kathy here, with a new challenge for June.

Your mission is to :
Frame It - Use a frame over your photo.

I cut my photo to be the same size as the frame, but then tilted it so that you could see the edges of the photo beneath.  I think this made it a little more interesting.  You could also put a smaller frame over a full size photo to highlight a portion of it or you could just frame the outside of the photo normally.

My frame was from the Cocoa Vanilla - Free Spirit Die Cut Ephemera pack.  There are many packs similar to this that include frames or you could make your own using 2 square layering dies or any shape you wish.

Everything else on the page is from the Simple Stories - Life in Colour collection.
I love the hugs and kisses paper, it's called Big Memories and it works so well with the quote.
The pink paper is the B side of So Much Happiness.
The sentiment is from the 4x6 Horizontal Journal Elements paper.
The little strips of papers, flowers and clips are from the Ephemera pack.

I also used Bazzill Basic White Cardstock.

I hope you'll join in our challenge this month.  I can't wait to see your creations.

Thanks for dropping by :)

Kathy

July Challenge #1- Mode of Transportation, and include some chipboard

Guest Design Team Member for July

I created around 30 double pages, but I've only photographed around 20.  I've included some useful mini album tips in the following Snapguide presentation - and if you click on the Snapguide logo you can see my pages in full.

June Challenge #1- Using Lines

Gypsy here with the first challenge for June- can you believe we're already into the sixth month of the year- I feel like it's flying by.

Inspired by Ness' LO from the Gallery I decided to use lines as a design feature on my page for this challenge. My photo is quite strong and bold so my lines are too. On this page they 'point' to my subject and also draw your eyes across the page. They also reflect Will's pointing in the photo too. They provide a great contrast to my very round title (and my round little boy). :-)

But you can also use lines to indicate direction, show connections, add movement, divide a story, extend an element in your photo like a horizon or waves and show time (time line). So your first challenge for the month is to use lines (straight, round, or irregular) to help tell the story on your page. You can be as subtle, abstract, or direct as you want.

Supplies used in my page: Core'dinations Cardstock: Gibraltar, Crate Paper Fourteen: Sparks, Basic Grey Knee Highs: Tether Ball. Thickers: Iguana, Cocoa Vanilla - Totally Rad - Little Stars andEnamel Shapes, and Pink Paislee Hey Kid Tags.

May Challenge #1 - With Grey

I can't believe we are already into the 5th month, this year is flying by! Gypsy here, it's my turn to set the challenge for the start of the month and I'm going for grey!

********

I think grey is a colour/neutral that's often overlooked- I know it's not one that I naturally reach for- but it's great to use as it doesn't have the intensity and weight of black and it doesn't have the bright, starkness of white or cream. It can evoke feelings of softness, some tones are calming, and it can also be quite moody and brooding. It can also be handy to dull down some garish colours in your photos as well- or intensify them and make them pop depending on how you use your grey.

Here's my page...

My DT Kit for May is full of the rich pinks, blues and buttery hues of the October Afternoon Farm House Line. October Afternoon are the last of my top 3 manufacturers still in existence- I'm even more excited than usual to be working with this months kit.

So here's what I used for my page: The cardstock is Core'dinations Stormy Grey, October Afternoon Farmhouse: Papers: Clothes LineGravel Road,  Her BureauPhonograph, and the Label Stickers,Flower Sack, shape stickers, and Flags. I've also used the Jillibean Soup Staples Grey salt, Carta Bella Rustic Elegance Chevron. The Alpha's are: Lovely in Straw,  Sweet comes from the Fancy Pants Happy Place Puffy word stickers, the two comes from the CB RE- Sticker sheet, and the fibre are the Timeless Touches Basic fibres Grey.

Gray looks great with a variety of colours and I've put together a pinterest board with some delicious colour schemes based on or including grey to inspire you!

Did you know... Gray and grey are different spellings of the same word, and both are used throughout the English-speaking world. But gray is more common in American English, while grey is more common in all the other main varieties of English. In the U.K., for instance, grey appears about twenty times for every instance of gray. In the U.S. the ratio is reversed.

April
Challenge #1

Hello everyone, Donna here with our first challenge for April

This month we are all about journalling.  When you journal on your page your telling a story to future family members, I clearly remember sitting with my mum and going though a box of photo we received after my grandfather passed away.

I wanted to know the 3 W's, Who, Where and Why   Sadly she couldn't tell be about a lot of them, and there was quite a bit of:  "I think that's so and so"

So I have a sketch for you and it must include some journalling.

You will have to forgive me for not having a sample page ready, we are in the middle of renovating and I've not had the chance to scrap yet!!  I'm hoping to get to scrap next week, so I'm really looking forward to seeing your take on this!

Have fun!

March
Challenge #1

Hello everyone, for our 1st March Challenge I would like to welcome Regina as our 1st Guest Design Team member for 2016!

Hello all, I’m Regina, and I’m excited to be Guest Designer this month! Thank you to Donna for inviting me and sending me a mini embellishment kit.

When Donna asked me what my favourite embellishments were, Washi Tape was no. 1 on the list! It is just so versatile, and some usually finds it way on to most of my projects. A few tips for working with it – tear it off instead of cutting it, also tear it lengthways, and layer it, which creates some interesting effects.
I love sprays too, but I don’t use them in the conventional manner. I use them a lot like a paint, sometimes watered down to tone down the colour, and as droplets on my page.
Chipboard of course, it the good old stand by. It adds some dimensions to your pages.
And flowers, who doesn’t love them. I prefer smaller flowers, and usually buy white to colour to match my pages.

All this is leading  up to something you say? Yes, I’m setting the challenge this month! It is to use washi tape, sprays, chipboard and flowers only on your page. (You can use some enamel dots or sequins as I have done). You may use a small amount of paper etc, to mount your photo, (get out your scraps) but I want you to see how little you need to create a great page.

I’ll tell you a little about how I created my page. I created a base page to add a bit more dimension to the layout. This is also  great to copy and start a second layout with. On my graph patterned paper, which is always great to use on a project like this, not too busy and not too plain,  I added my droplets, my washi tapes, my flowers that I had coloured with the spray, and the dragon fly I covered with different tapes. The second dragon fly I sprayed and added some enamel dots. I used some PL cards for my photo matts, they didn’t escape the washi treatment either!

Hope you like my page and enjoy the challenge. Looking forward to seeing your entries now! I’ll be watching.

Cheers

Regina

Challenge #2
Our second challenge for the month is a super simple one....

We all have these cut-apart sheets with the 'project life' style cards- Like these super lovely onesfrom Simple Stories. Invariably there might be one or two that we might not use for whatever reason. Today I am challenging you to make a modification to one of those and then use it!

The 6x4 card on the left said 'Share your story' and while that is something as scrapbookers we love to do- I don't see much point in putting that sentiment on a page- where we are quite obviously sharing a story already. :-)  So I've layered some October afternoon label stickers to cover the word 'your' and added a thicker 'a' to change the meaning altogether!

I'd love to see what you come up with for the challenge in the gallery!

Other supplies used for this page: Cardstock: blue and yellow, Kaisercraft Washi Hearts and Red Pearls, Simple Stories Life in colour Fundamental cardstock stickers, Cocoa Vanilla Free Spirit Little Hearts, Pink Paislee Hey Kid: Marco Polo and Red Rover.

February
Challenge #2

Hi :)

It's Kathy here.

I used to scrapbook many years ago but then my love of cardmaking took over.
My youngest daughter doesn't even have an album and is always asking where her photos are and why she doesn't have a special book too :(
I have really wanted to get back into scrapping for her AND for me.
So I made a New Years Resolution that I was going to DO IT!
And I HAVE :)
Being on the fabulous team at Mystical Scrapbooks is really going to help me achieve my goals.

So this is my first page after taking a very long scrapbooking break :)

It is my turn to create a challenge for the Mystical Scrapbooks blog and I decided to make it about journalling.
The challenge is to make a kind of journalling border around your photos.
I hope you'll join in and make a page, I can't wait to see what you create!

It can be any kind of journalling.  I decided to just write the Who and Where and then I looked in a Thesaurus for synonyms for Explore, which is my title.
Because I haven't been keeping up with my scrapping, I have forgotten a lot of the details and little stories that go along with the photos.  That's what can happen unfortunately and exactly why scrapping current photos is such a great idea.  But anyway, I just had to get a bit creative :)

I used Core'dinations Essentials cardstock and tore a strip of it to resemble (loosely :) ) rocks. I also distressed the matt around the photos.  Then I used another matt that I did the journalling around.

The gorgeous paper is Basic Grey - Olivia and I also used some Kaisercraft Pearls - Snow.
I made the title using Thickers - Hello Amy.  I love this alphabet!  The fabric adds a lot of texture and I love the stitched look and the font is so fun!

So I've made a start! I hope you'll join me on my journey and we can experiment and learn together :)

(And one of the first things I need to learn is how to take better photos of scrapbook pages! ha ha :))

Kathy

Welcome to our first challenge for 2016!

I think you'd have to be living under a rock to not know of the passing of David Bowie on the 10th of January. He was a man that inspired many and his music holds special memories for a lot of people. He even had a special connection with Australia- with the clip for his video Let's Dance filmed here.

So this months challenge asks you to be inspired by Bowie...

* You could use a song or title or lyric as a title, journaling or just a jumping off point. Think: Dancing in the Street, We could be Heroes, Starman, Modern Love or your choice.

* You could take inspiration from his eclectic style he was a man of many faces and had a pretty outrageous wardrobe.

* Use his words on a project. Here are a few of my favourite quotes
"I don't know where I'm going from here, but I promise it won't be boring."
" The truth is of course is that there is no journey. We are arriving and departing all at the same time."
“The greatest thing you'll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return.”

* Use his death to inspire you to make a tribute page to someone or something thing has had an impact on your life as he and his music has for so many people.

* Or you could take inspiration from a Bowie Album cover... this could be a real challenge- but maybe it could inspire you to go big on your photo or title.

This LO is inspired by the cover of Bowie's Space Oddity album and I picked the photo with Bowie's make-up in mind. This little guy starts school this year... I'm not sure where the time goes!

Products used: Maggie Holmes Blue Dot and CamerasCardstockSparklets, and Thickers.

Challenge Two

Our final challenge of the year ...

Document something that makes you or a member of your family happy.  It could be a sport or a hobby.  Perhaps it is a particular food you relish or a time of the day.  Maybe you enjoy relaxing with a glass of wine after a hard day or simply sitting in a favourite spot reading.  Whatever makes you happy we'd like to see it !!

My son likes to swim - he's been doing this since he was a baby and now swims at a high level and competes at carnivals throughout our region and in Sydney.  A normal squad training session lasts two hours and he will swim an average of three and a half kilometers.  He loves it - it is his way of de-stressing after a hectic and brain draining day at school.
I go weak at the knees just thinking about it!

Time for a second challenge this month.

One of the things I have to remind myself is that it is important that I get my story told as well as telling the stories of my children and our lives together.

This month I am challenging you to tell a story and include a photograph about yourself - it can be from your childhood like my page, or it can be of you as an adult.   It can even be of you with a member of your family BUT it must be about you - a funny story, a childhood memory, an observation, just so long as it is primarily about you.

This is me at about 4 months old.  My Dad took this photo in the backyard of the home we were living in at the time - I know this because I can see his shadow against the backdrop.  My journalling is hidden on the pull out card beneath the photo.

I have used ..

July Challenge #2

Hi everyone - hope you are feeling inspired this month to join in our challenges.

Earlier I wrote a little about the use of Visual Triangles on your layouts and showed a lovely example of this from our Gallery. Now it is your turn to do a page featuring visual triangles using one of the techniques I mentioned -

Repeating single embellishments in the triangle points

Using a single colour at these points

Repeating a specific shape, text or journaling at these points to form a triangle

Or using a combination of these techniques in embellishment clusters

You can see from my page I have used colour to create three distinct triangular points on my page.  Each point holds two patches of pink (one as a rectangular strip and the other as a circle) while also using a larger area in blue.  This helps to draw the eyes across my page from top right to left to bottom right which then encompasses the photographs and overall design of the page.

I have used the Echo Park - Everyday Eclectic range from the Mystical store for this page.  There are still a number of papers and the element sticker sheet available.

Remember - you have all month to play along with us and be in the running for our monthly challenge prize of a Ribbon and String pack.

July Challenge #1

Hello everyone and welcome to our first challenge for JULY!!...

For our first challenge, I have a sketch for you, I didn't get time to make my own this time so I've found on Page Maps for you.
www.pagemaps.com.

Of course here at Mystical we like to add to our sketchs, so you need to add a touch of Metal to your page!

It can be anything you like....and a little or much as you like

Here is my take.  I've used Crate Paper Maggie Holmes range, which you can find here  and Twiddleybitz Sprocket Set - Found here

For the metal requirement I sprayed the Twiddleybitz Sprocket Set with Colour spray
then used Copper embossing powder to give it a rusty look.  I kept the powder a bit
hit-n-miss to make it look a bit more realistic.

You have all month to play along with us and be in the running for our monthly challenge prize - Looking forwards to see your creations up in the gallery soon.

This months prize (drawn by random) is an Ribbon and String pack - 5 meters of various ribbon, jute and strings :)

February Challenge

Wow where did January go?? The kids are settled back in school, life should have returned to normal. For this challenge I want you to think about your time at school, painting, maths, writing....all those thinks you loved or despised! Now it is your time to step back and be influenced by the classroom ......

For this challenge you must do some painting, some handwriting and have a pie chart on your layout.

This is my take - :) Some of you might have seen it a tad early as I mucked up and posted it to last months cybercrop. Just goes to show that school holidays really run me ragged!! LOL.

Thrilling

As you can see I have used some water paint, the pie chart and I have handwritten my journaling around the patterned paper.
Remember that you need to upload your layout into the Mystical Scrapbooks Gallery by the 28th February for your chance to win a fantastic prize.

And this month prize is a Paint and Mask kit.

Happy scrapping and I can't wait to see what you come up with.

Welcome to a brand new year on Mystical.  We hope you have survived all the turkey, ham and pudding leftovers and are fit and eager to start off 2015.

Our first challenge is a bit of an ode to Australia Day but in an easy scrap friendly format.

On your page I'd like you to include ...

The colours red, white and blue.
Stripes.
Stars.

You can add other colours and other embellishments just so long as the criteria is covered.

I have used Echo Park Trendsetter range from the store.

We'd love to see your pages in the gallery and you have all month to play along with us.

NOVEMBER CHALLENGE

Hello everyone. It's Dale here. My turn to set you all a challenge for the month. You have until 30 November to complete it.

I'd like you to create a double page spread using the sketch below, which is from Page Maps October 2012.

EXTRA CRITERIA: Please use the word birthday or party in your title.

Here is my example.

October Challenge

Hi Jane here, and it is my turn to host the monthly challenge.

This month I'd like you to dig deep into your patterned paper and embellishment stashes and find some very obvious paper made for those boys and girls in your life - be they your own children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews or just family friends and do an obviously child focused (boy or girl) page.  I am also asking you to find an embellishment or two (can be from the same range or from somewhere else) which is obviously child focused to add to your page.

I've used the Bo Bunny Blast Off  range from the store with it's out of space, planets and aliens theme which worked well with photographs of my son on a school excursion to Luna Park a few years ago - yep they got to go to Luna Park ... for school!

I also like the Bo Bunny - On the Go range or the Imaginisce - Enchanted line for those with little girls.

Can't wait to see what you come up with for October and Dale and Tracey will be inspiring you throughout the month with their own creations.

September Winner -  Our lucky winner is  Maave!

Maave has created a lovely layout using some wonderful old travel tags.  You can it check out in our gallery here

I have a paint and template set for you Maave, and I've sent you an email for your mailing details

Thank you to everyone that joined in!

September Challenge

Welcome to September, this month I (Tracey) am setting the challenge and it is a number challenge with a twist....... so keep reading to the end of the challenge for the twist....so get your thinking caps on....
You need to have the following on your layout;
a) 1 double sided pattern paper
b) 2 photos
c) 3 different pattern papers (the pattern paper in (a) is not included in this)
d) 4 embellishments
e) 5 tags

now the twist............ you are to have a 1/2 in the challenge - you are to cut your pattern paper in half somehow and show side one and side two as your base. As you can see in my sample I have cut the pattern paper in a diagonal, flipped one side over and adhered them back together to make one piece. You can add anything else you like to your layout as long as you have the five elements in the list and the 1/2 requirement.

Flying High

You have until the end of the month to get your challenge into the Mystical Scrapbooks Gallery.

Hello fellow scrappers.

I can't believe it's August already.

This month's challenge is set by me, Dale. I would like to see you use:

CHIPBOARD AND BLING

Here is my example.

Everything I used is from the Mystical store. The chipboard is Twiddleybitz Basic Arrow shape which I have used as it came but attached some ribbon and Kaisercraft rhinestones to jazz it up.

I've used a Simple Stories Take a Hike Sn@p Pocket to put my journalling into. I have also dressed it up a bit. These are really cute and make your page interactive. Always a fun thing.

You have until the end of August to get your entry into the Mystical gallery. The other Designers will also be doing this challenge so watch out on the blog for their posts.

July Challenge

Hello scrappy friends,  I get to pick our challenge this month and I've chosen a colour challenge.

One of my favourite type of challenges as you get to dig through your collections of papers, and left over bits that we all save,  and find ones that fit.... Sometimes coming up with a combo you wouldn't of thought of!

The picture is just there for no other reason than it shows off the colours :)  For my challenge you must use at least 4 colours and you may add a little white if you need too.

And here is my take.
I've used October Afternoon papers Farmhouse - Sidewalk and Report Card.
Core'dinations Card-stock Gibraltar and Nostalgia

I hope you enjoy my challenge, you have till the end of July to upload your take into our gallery

Cheers Donna

May's Challenge

Jane here and welcome to May.  This month we are going to introduce something a little different  .. a single monthly challenge.

Previously each of the DT have introduced our own challenge each month but we have decided to make life a little less complicated for everyone and we are going to have just the one - hosted in rotation by one team member and this month is my turn.  This doesn't mean the other two get off scott free !! Oh No!  they will be popping in during the month with their own takes on my challenge for your inspiration.

I'm sure this month our thoughts will focus on motherhood while we enjoy the attentions of our loved ones (or perhaps lavish attention of our own onto someone else) on Mother's Day.  At this time we may pause to remember experiences we shared in the past with our own mother or a grandmother or perhaps with our now grownup children.

So for the May challenge I'm going to ask you to use a vintage photograph (or more than one).  To be considered vintage an item must be 30 plus years in age so unless you are a sweet young thing this will likely mean we can use photographs of our childhood or pictures of our parents or grandparents or other family members.  It doesn't have to be about motherhood although you are most welcome to use that theme if you wish.

I am also going to ask you to use some sort of vintage ephemera as embellishment on your page.  This doesn't have to actually be 30 years old (but again it can be if you wish) but it has to depict something relevant to a vintage era so think items depicting old fashioned hand phones or cameras, keys, tickets, lace and ribbon etc.

For my sample page I have used a photograph of my mother as a young woman.  My Mum was a very quiet, very gentle, ladylike woman - I always thought she radiated beauty not only outwardly but from inside herself as well.  I have used a typewriter as my vintage embellishment and touches of pearls which was her jewelry of choice.

I have used papers and element stickers from the Crate Paper - For the Record range.  Ribbon, flowers and pearls as well as the cardstock background all available in the store.

You have all month to complete your layout.  Please upload it to our May Challenge folder in the gallery for your chance to win a lovely Mystical prize.

Hi friends,

Here are your challenges for April.

Jane's Challenge

Jane's challenge for you is an easy one but one you might have to think about just a little bit.  I want you to create a layout using one 12x12 background (either cardstock or patterned paper) and one 6x6 sheet of patterned paper.  No other patterned paper allowed.  You are welcome to use borders, twine, chipboard embellies, flowers and whatever else you would like for your page but only the one 6x6 sheet of patterned paper.  You can use this whole or cut it apart like Jane havs done - if it is doubled sided you can use either or both sides to achieve your page.

Here is Jane's layout - she has used  the Echo Park - For the Record range from the shop cutting apart the Vintage Linen sheet into it's 6x6 squares and using the Fancy Floral square.  Then used bits and pieces from the Elements Stickers and the Alpha Stickers to complete her page.

Jane would love to see your take on her challenge.

******************************************

Dale's Challenge

Here is Dales interpretation of it.
