Dale's July 2014 lesson

Hi there. Dale here with this month's lesson.

Today I'm doing a lesson on card making. It's a really simple card that I've made with the July Mystical Kit.

I've used the yellow cardstock, some white cardstock, the grey and white twine, washi tape, the Hello wire balloon word and the Simple Stories DIY Boutique and Echo Park Capture life patterned papers. I've also used my own yellow pen and a square punch.

Firstly, I assembled my bits and pieces.

I have punched out a square and a frame from the Echo Park paper. I inked in yellow around the square.

The DIY Boutique paper is terrific to alter. I have coloured in yellow pen  in the frame to match my design. You can see on my Sunset layout that I used two coloured pens to match my design using the same technique.

Then I stuck down all the other elements.  I didn't forget to adorn the inside of my card to match the front. A card gives a great overall impression if you also decorate the inside.

Here is the finished card.

Jane's page for the July monthly challenge ...

This month we have been working with this colour palette for our challenge.  It worked beautifully with the new Mystical kit we released earlier this month.  There are still a couple of these delightful kits available in the store but hurry before they are sold out.

These colours will also work just as well using other ranges and bits and pieces from your stash.

I have used papers from the  Basic Grey Knee High and Bow Ties range available in the store to create my page.

There is still time to play along with us.  We would love to see your layout in the gallery.  Each month Mystical has a wonderful prize (and sometimes more than one) to give away to one lucky entrant - as the saying goes you do need to be in it in order to win it !!

Jane's gallery pick for July ...

Hello everyone - I hope you like my gallery pick for this month.  I couldn't  go past this bright and cheerful page from DebW,  entered in the current challenge for this month using this colour palette.

If this doesn't cheer you up this cold, chilly winter nothing will!

We would love to see more entries for the monthly challenge - it is super simple and the colours are easily found among your scrappy stashes - you don't even have to use them all - just find a couple you like and run with them.

Some more on the new Kit Release

I was lucky enough to get one of the limited addition Mystical Scrapbooks Kit that was released this month to have a play with, here is my results.
A close up of one of the 2x3 pocket page card.
Potty people chipboard designed exclusively for Mystical Scrapbooking by Memory Maze Chipboard Design.

One of the wonderful flares designed by Jane Howden's daughter.
 The second pocket page card.
Some more chipboard and another flare.
A glimpse of the 4x6 inch stencil designed by Sally at Memory Maze Designs.

Singapore Pocket Page

The kit comes with two pocket page inserts and this is just a sample of how you can use the products to create your very own pocket page.
When I create pocket pages I tend to pick one photo as the main photo and scrap that as a 12x12 layout - this creates a title page in my album and allows me to get my creative fix as well as scrapping many photos at a time in the pocket page. It is a great way to share daily life photos or those special occasions where you take way to many photos; like holidays or celebrations. This is the title page that I have created using the Mystical Kit.

World Travellers

Mystical Scrapbook is currently holding a cybercrop, you have until Friday this week to get your challenges done and loaded into the gallery for you chance to win a fantastic prize. The challenges this month are all based upon stencils. This is my sample that I created - I wanted to push you all a bit this week so I have challenged you to use three different masks/templates or stencils and your have to use a mixed media product like gesso, gelatos or texture paste with on of the stencils.

Sail Away

I have used the Mystical Scrapbook Kit for all three of these layouts and I still have one more layout for out Mystical Scrapbooks Monthly Colour Challenge to share with you....but that will have to wait as it is not my time to share that just yet.

Hope that you like the kit release and that you pop on over to the store and snap one up today.

Jane's July tutorial ...

Hi Everyone, This month I'm going to show you three quick ways to use washi tape.

You will need washi tape, small pieces of scrap cardstock (any colour and size), a length of string/twine, a tag, and a couple of punches you might like to use.

Tags

Easy peasy – use your washi to cover the bottom of your tag in strips.

Cut the overhang off along the edge of the tag.

Use whatever you like to add more to the tag (I used a stamped saying and a couple of butterfly stamps and tied on some twine but you could use flowers, rub-ons, buttons - whatever you like or just leave it plain).

Punched embellishments

Cover your scrap cardstock with washi and again cut off the overhang.

Use your punches to create your embellishments. You can then jazz these up with some bling or flowers, whatever you like.

Cut short lengths of washi – attach the string across the middle of each piece or attach the wasi across the middle of the string whichever way you find works best for you – do these one at time as it's easier.  Try to keep them evenly space along the string.

Fold over and press both sides of the washi together trying to keep them even and together.

Once done use your scissors to cut notches into the bottom of each piece of washi to form the flags.
TIP - Odd numbers work better than even so try to keep them at 3, 5, 7 etc.

And here we have our efforts, ready to add to a layout or card.
